Subject of the Sky cover, helicopter with sun streaming above with a bright deep blue sky. The shadow of helicopter on pavement.

"Were you up all night crying?" Emma's boss said to her face. The mockery continued until she said two words while alone in her office, then he threatened her. After a year of Internal Affairs investigations, she was granted a transfer to the state's law enforcement Aviation Unit.

One sunny morning at work, she was taking photos of one of the helicopters; the next moment she was on the pavement in great pain. Emma remembered only a vague sense of falling and nothing else. The only witness claimed she fell while getting out.

After her long recovery, she took off with her dogs and ended up in a peaceful town in Kansas. Under a new sky she discovered the first lie. Obsessed to find out what caused all her injuries, Emma examined hundreds of photos she'd taken, researched everything she could about that helicopter, poured over her medical records, statements and other records and all that was said during the long months of her recovery—some things weren't possible, some were deeply disturbing.

What she discovered about what happened and about herself...

This novel is based on actual events. All Internal Affairs statements, emails and records are verbatim from the actual records, except names and locations. Some of this novel is fiction for literary purposes.
